What Is PBL Transparent Web?

PBL Transparent Web is a transparent plastic barrier laminate material designed for squeeze tube conversion. Unlike ABL, it does not use aluminum foil as the primary barrier layer. Selected PBL structures can incorporate EVOH to improve oxygen barrier performance while retaining a plastic-based construction.

Transparent

Product Visibility

Transparent laminate can support packaging designs where the product, fill level or visual appearance of the formula forms part of the packaging concept.

Barrier

EVOH Options

Selected PBL structures incorporate EVOH to improve oxygen barrier performance without using an aluminum foil barrier.

Squeeze

Flexible Tube Body

Plastic laminate construction can provide comfortable squeeze characteristics and better shape recovery than typical aluminum barrier laminate.

Design

Clear Packaging Effects

Transparent areas can be combined with printed graphics, windows and selective decoration for distinctive retail packaging.

Why Choose Transparent PBL?

The main difference between transparent and white PBL is not simply color. Transparency changes the way the product and artwork interact visually, and it also affects how light-sensitive formulas should be evaluated.

Clear Laminate Packaging

Show the Formula Through the Tube

Transparent PBL can be used when brands want the packaged formula, fill level or visual texture to remain visible through selected areas of the tube body.

It can also support transparent-window artwork, minimalist packaging, clean skincare concepts and product-visibility designs.

However, transparent packaging should not automatically be selected for formulas that require strong protection from light.

Transparent PBL Web Structure

A typical PBL structure combines PE-based outer and inner layers, bonding layers and an optional EVOH oxygen-barrier layer.

Important: Grade codes are used to identify different PBL constructions. Exact total thickness, EVOH thickness and individual layer structure should always be verified against the approved technical data sheet.

Transparent PBL vs White PBL Web

Both materials can use plastic-based barrier structures, but their visual and light-protection characteristics differ.

Transparent PBL vs ABL

Transparent PBL and ABL serve substantially different packaging priorities. Transparent PBL emphasizes visibility and plastic laminate characteristics, while ABL prioritizes strong aluminum barrier performance.

Applications for Transparent PBL Web

Transparent PBL is particularly useful when product visibility or clear packaging is part of the brand concept. Formula compatibility and light sensitivity should still be evaluated before material approval.

Skincare

Clear Gel Skincare

Suitable for selected clear or translucent gel formulations where product appearance is important.

Cleanser

Facial Cleansing Gel

Transparent tube designs can highlight gel texture and product fill level.

Hair Care

Hair Gel & Treatment

Clear laminate packaging can be considered for selected gel-based hair care products.

Personal Care

Gel-Based Products

Useful for products where color, texture or transparency supports the retail presentation.

Printing & Design on Transparent PBL

Transparent laminate creates design possibilities that are different from conventional white tube materials. Artwork should be developed with transparency and product visibility in mind.

Design

Clear Window

Leave selected areas unprinted to create a product-visibility window.

Printing

White Underprint

Selected artwork may use a white backing layer to improve color opacity and contrast.

Minimalist

Clear Branding

Transparent material works well with minimalist graphics and clean skincare branding.

Premium

Selective Decoration

Printing and selected decorative techniques can be combined with transparent areas.

Transparent PBL Development Process

Transparent laminate should be selected from both an engineering and visual-design perspective.

01

Review Formula

Evaluate formula composition, oxygen sensitivity and light sensitivity.

02

Confirm Transparency

Decide whether full transparency or a clear-window effect is required.

03

Select PBL Grade

Choose the laminate and EVOH configuration according to barrier requirements.

04

Define Web Size

Confirm laminate thickness and required web width for tube conversion.

05

Develop Artwork

Define clear areas, printed areas and white-underprint requirements.

06

Validate Filled Tube

Test formula compatibility, appearance, leakage and storage stability.

Xinfly Packaging Engineering

Transparent Does Not Mean Barrier-Free

Transparent PBL can incorporate an EVOH oxygen barrier, but transparency and light protection are different engineering requirements. The final structure should be selected according to the complete formula.

Ask an Engineer
1. Check light sensitivity first.

Transparent packaging may not be suitable when the formula requires strong protection from light.

2. Oxygen barrier and transparency can coexist.

EVOH can provide enhanced oxygen barrier while allowing a transparent plastic-based laminate structure.

3. Test the real formula.

Do not select transparent PBL from appearance alone. Conduct compatibility and stability testing.

4. Consider the product color.

Formula color variation, bubbles, settling or separation can become more visible through transparent packaging.

5. Plan artwork for transparency.

Printed colors can appear different without an opaque white background. White underprint may be required.

6. Validate the finished tube.

Evaluate the laminate together with printing, side seam, shoulder, closure and filled formula.
