How We Developed Custom Toothpaste Tubes for a Growing Oral Care Brand

A fast-growing oral care brand partnered with Xinfly Packaging to develop premium laminate toothpaste tubes for its whitening and fluoride toothpaste collection. Unlike skincare packaging, toothpaste packaging requires stronger flavor retention, moisture protection, tube recovery, and filling-line compatibility. Our engineering team developed a custom laminate tube solution that improved product freshness, production efficiency, and retail shelf presentation.

Custom Toothpaste Tube Packaging Project for Oral Care Brand

Project Overview

The customer was preparing to launch a premium oral care product line including whitening toothpaste, fluoride toothpaste, and sensitive teeth formulations. Their previous tube samples looked acceptable at first glance, but the brand team was concerned about long-term flavor freshness, moisture protection, tube shape recovery, cap matching, and automated filling performance.

From the beginning, Xinfly Packaging treated this project as an oral care packaging engineering task, not a regular cosmetic tube order. Toothpaste formulas contain flavor oils, humectants, abrasives, fluoride ingredients, whitening agents, and thick paste systems. These ingredients require packaging that can protect freshness, preserve texture, support stable sealing, and remain convenient for consumers during daily use.

After reviewing the formula characteristics and launch requirements, our engineers recommended a laminate tube solution instead of a standard PE tube. For toothpaste products, laminate tubes provide stronger barrier performance, better flavor retention, and more stable printing results, making them highly suitable for custom toothpaste tube packaging and oral care tubes.

Customer Challenges Before Working With Xinfly

Flavor Loss During Storage

  • Mint oils and aroma compounds can gradually migrate through unsuitable packaging.
  • The customer needed toothpaste tubes that could keep a fresh taste after long-term storage.
  • Flavor retention was especially important for whitening and daily-use fluoride toothpaste.

Moisture & Texture Stability

  • Toothpaste consistency can change when moisture protection is insufficient.
  • The customer wanted to avoid drying, thickening, or texture instability during shelf life.
  • Barrier performance became more important than using the lowest-cost tube structure.

Filling-Line Compatibility

  • The customer planned high-speed automatic filling and sealing.
  • Tubes required stable dimensions, consistent shoulder quality, and reliable tail sealing.
  • Cap assembly, tube feeding, and filling pressure all had to remain smooth in production.

Factory Engineer’s Recommendation: Why Laminate Tubes Were the Right Choice

Based on 15+ years of tube manufacturing experience, our engineers do not recommend toothpaste packaging only by appearance or unit price. For oral care products, the tube must protect flavor, control moisture transfer, resist paste pressure, support clean dispensing, and remain compatible with automated filling equipment.

After comparing PE tubes, PCR PE tubes, PBL laminate tubes, and ABL laminate tubes, we recommended laminate toothpaste tubes because they offered the best balance of flavor retention, moisture barrier performance, print quality, tube shape stability, filling efficiency, and cost control.

For this project, we suggested a PBL laminate structure because the brand wanted premium oral care positioning, strong printing performance, and better packaging protection without the metallic appearance of traditional ABL toothpaste tubes.

Why Standard PE Tubes Were Not the Best Option

Barrier Performance Gap

Standard PE tubes are flexible and cost-effective, but they may not provide enough protection for toothpaste formulas containing volatile flavor oils, humectants, and active oral care ingredients.

Freshness Perception Risk

For toothpaste, consumers immediately judge product quality by smell, taste, texture, and dispensing feel. If the flavor weakens or the paste texture changes, the brand experience is reduced.

Retail Branding Limitation

Laminate tubes allow sharper graphics, cleaner color blocks, and more stable decoration results, which are important for premium oral care brands competing on retail shelves.

Final Packaging Solution

The final toothpaste tube packaging solution was developed around four priorities: flavor protection, moisture barrier performance, filling-line stability, and premium oral care branding. Our team selected a laminate tube structure with strong decoration capability and reliable sealing performance for large-volume production.
