Case Study · Nail Care Tube Packaging

How We Developed Black Poly Gel Tubes for a Professional Nail Care Brand

A professional nail care brand partnered with Xinfly Packaging to develop custom black poly gel tubes for its builder gel and nail extension gel collection. Unlike skincare or sunscreen packaging, this project focused on light blocking, high-viscosity dispensing, precise application, professional salon appearance, and better product stability for UV-curing nail gel formulas.

After reviewing the poly gel formula, application habits of nail technicians, retail positioning, and transportation risks, our engineering team recommended a 25mm diameter 30g matte black PE nozzle tube with a screw cap. The black tube body helped improve light shielding, while the long nozzle applicator supported cleaner and more controlled gel dispensing.

Black Poly Gel Tubes Packaging Project for Professional Nail Care Brand

Project Background

The customer was preparing to launch a professional poly gel product line for nail salons, independent nail technicians, Amazon stores, and beauty distributors. The product line included poly gel, builder gel, nail extension gel, and UV-curing nail enhancement products.

Before working with Xinfly Packaging, the customer tested several standard cosmetic tubes. Although the tubes could hold the gel, they did not solve the most important nail care packaging problems: light exposure, difficult squeezing, inaccurate dispensing, product residue, and a packaging appearance that looked too generic for a professional nail brand.

Based on our experience in nozzle tubes, cosmetic squeeze tubes, matte finish tubes, and builder poly gel tubes, we developed a black nozzle tube structure specifically for high-viscosity nail gel applications.

Customer Pain Points Before Development

Poly Gel Was Sensitive to Light Exposure

  • The formula contained UV-curing ingredients and photoinitiator systems.
  • Standard white or translucent tubes did not provide enough light-blocking confidence.
  • The customer wanted packaging that better protected the gel from strong light during storage and retail display.

High Viscosity Made Dispensing Difficult

  • Poly gel is much thicker than lotion, cleanser, or shampoo formulas.
  • Standard cosmetic tube openings caused poor control and inconsistent gel output.
  • Nail technicians needed a tube that allowed cleaner and more accurate application.

Professional Nail Branding Needed Stronger Shelf Impact

  • The customer wanted packaging that looked suitable for salon professionals.
  • Matte black packaging was preferred for a premium nail care image.
  • The tube had to look modern, technical, and different from ordinary skincare tubes.

Factory Engineer’s Recommendation: Matte Black PE Nozzle Tube

From a factory engineering perspective, poly gel packaging should be evaluated very differently from skincare or sunscreen tubes. Poly gel is thick, sticky, and often used in small controlled amounts by professional nail technicians. The tube must support accurate dispensing instead of simply releasing product quickly.

Based on 15+ years of cosmetic tube manufacturing experience, our engineers recommended a black 2-layer PE tube with a long nozzle applicator. The black tube body provides better light shielding than standard white tubes, while PE material offers good flexibility, squeeze recovery, and cost efficiency for 30g professional nail gel packaging.

We did not recommend unnecessary high-barrier structures such as EVOH or ABL for this project. Poly gel packaging needs light protection and dispensing control more than oxygen barrier performance. A matte black PE nozzle tube provided a more practical balance between product protection, professional appearance, user experience, and production cost.

Why Black Tubes Are Recommended for Poly Gel Packaging

Better Light Blocking

Black tube bodies help reduce light transmission compared with white or translucent tubes. This is important for poly gel, builder gel, and nail extension gel formulas that may be affected by strong light exposure.

Professional Salon Appearance

Matte black packaging creates a technical, premium, and professional look that fits nail salons, gel extension kits, and advanced nail care product lines.

Stronger Brand Recognition

Black tubes provide strong visual contrast for metallic logos, white typography, silver accents, or UV gel color coding, helping nail brands stand out in crowded online marketplaces.

Why We Recommended a Long Nozzle Instead of a Standard Opening

More Precise Gel Placement

Poly gel is usually applied in small controlled amounts. A long nozzle helps nail technicians place the gel directly onto the nail form, nail tip, or palette with better accuracy.

Less Product Waste

Standard wide openings can release too much gel at once. A nozzle applicator reduces over-dispensing and helps users control the amount of product during nail extension work.

Cleaner Professional Use

The nozzle design reduces residue around the tube mouth and keeps the packaging cleaner during repeated salon use.

Final Packaging Specifications

The final black poly gel tube solution was designed around light blocking, controlled dispensing, professional salon appearance, and cost-efficient production. The 25mm diameter 30g format matched the common purchasing habits of professional nail care brands.

Why We Did Not Recommend EVOH or ABL Tubes

Oxygen Barrier Was Not the Main Need

EVOH and ABL structures are useful for formulas that need stronger oxygen or moisture barrier protection. For this poly gel project, light shielding and dispensing control were more important than oxygen barrier performance.

Black PE Was More Practical

A black PE tube provided better practical value because it improved light blocking, supported flexible squeezing, and kept production cost under control for a professional nail care product line.

Cost Efficiency for Multiple SKUs

Poly gel brands often launch multiple shades and gel types. 2-layer PE tubes helped the customer manage cost while maintaining consistent professional packaging across the entire collection.

FAQ About Black Poly Gel Tubes

1. What tube is best for poly gel packaging?

For most poly gel and builder gel products, a black PE nozzle tube is a practical choice because it supports light shielding, flexible squeezing, and precise dispensing.

2. Why use black tubes for poly gel?

Black tubes help reduce light transmission and create a more professional nail care appearance, especially for UV-curing gel products.

3. What diameter is recommended for poly gel tubes?

25mm is commonly recommended for 30g poly gel tubes because it offers a good balance between hand feel, product volume, and professional packaging appearance.

4. Do poly gel tubes need EVOH barrier?

Usually not. Poly gel packaging generally requires better light shielding and dispensing control rather than oxygen barrier performance, so black PE tubes are often more cost-effective.

5. Why use a long nozzle applicator?

A long nozzle helps nail technicians dispense gel more precisely, reduce product waste, and apply small controlled amounts during nail extension work.

6. Is a screw cap better than a flip-top cap for poly gel?

Yes. Screw caps are usually preferred because poly gel is thick and sticky. A screw cap helps keep the nozzle cleaner and improves professional use.

7. Can you make matte black poly gel tubes?

Yes. Xinfly Packaging can produce matte black, glossy black, soft-touch black, and custom color poly gel tubes.

8. Can you print metallic logos on black tubes?

Yes. Silk screen printing, hot stamping, metallic ink, and other decoration methods are available for black nail care tubes.

9. What capacity is common for poly gel tubes?

30g is one of the most common sizes for professional poly gel and builder gel products. Other sizes can also be customized.

10. Can you support private label nail care packaging?

Yes. We support OEM, ODM, and private label nail care brands with tube design, sampling, printing, production, and delivery.

11. Can you provide samples before production?

Yes. Stock samples, color samples, printed samples, and custom development samples are available depending on your project requirements.

12. What information should I provide for a quote?

Please provide product type, fill weight, tube diameter, tube color, nozzle style, cap type, artwork, order quantity, and target market.
